Dancing is an exciting and lively form of American folk dance! Picture this: eight enthusiastic dancers (four couples) forming a perfect square, moving in perfect harmony to the rhythm of the music and the calls! And let's not forget about round dancing—it's a fabulous ballroom dance where couples glide to the beat, following the calls with joy!

Not only is square dancing an absolute blast and a fantastic workout, but it’s also a wonderful social event where you can connect with new friends! Think of square dancing as your “happy pill,” releasing endorphins that serve as natural mood boosters and stress relievers leaving you with a delightful sense of joy and relaxation!

Butch Suttey
Caller

Butch is from Butte, MT and started dancing in 1983 in Lolo, MT from Ray Granger. Butch enjoyed the fellowship and dancing so much that he asked Ray what he could do to help keep this great activity going. Ray replied, ”Become a Caller.” When Butch returned to Butte, he was mentored by local callers Roy Johnson and Bill Pasco. He later enrolled in a Caller’s School in Missoula, MT with Dayrl Clendenin and Ray Granger.

After calling and teaching for many clubs, Butch took a 10-year break from calling before returning in 2006 to calling full time for clubs in Idaho and Washington. While living in Idaho he met his wife, Faye, at a Square Dance in Clarkston, WA. Together, they danced and called in Washington and Idaho until returning to Butte in 2019 to be closer to family.
